Delaware State Police have arrested a Smyrna man on a felony charge after he allegedly pulled a handgun on another driver during a road rage confrontation on Route 1 near Middletown last Wednesday afternoon.
The incident took place on July 22, 2026, at around 4:00 p.m., when troopers were called to investigate a firearm-related road rage report on Route 1. According to the preliminary investigation, 31-year-old Shawn Hubbard and the victim were both heading southbound on Route 1, near the exit for Route 301, when a dispute between the two escalated. As the victim pulled off the highway, Hubbard allegedly aimed a handgun directly at them.
Witnesses provided troopers with a physical description of the suspect, including what he was wearing, and reported that he had been driving a gray Mazda SUV. Investigators used that information to identify Hubbard and went to his Smyrna home, where they found the Mazda parked outside. When troopers made contact with Hubbard, they noted he matched the description and was still wearing the same clothing described by witnesses.
A search of the Mazda turned up a loaded handgun inside the vehicle. Investigators then secured an arrest warrant for Hubbard.
Later that same day, Hubbard voluntarily turned himself in at Troop 9. He was charged with felony aggravated menacing, arraigned through the Justice of the Peace Court, and released on his own recognizance.
