Meta announced Friday it is introducing new features to its Meta AI service in certain markets, giving the chatbot the ability to complete tasks on its own without the user needing to guide it every step of the way.
The upgraded version of Meta AI runs on the company’s latest Muse Spark 1.1 model, which is built to understand what a user needs and carry out tasks independently.
Here is a breakdown of what’s new:
• The enhanced AI can deliver daily briefings by pulling together information from a user’s calendar and can be configured to handle repeating tasks, such as putting together weekly meal plans or providing regular trend updates.
• Meta is starting with a limited rollout, making the new features available through the Meta AI app and meta.ai in select markets, with plans to bring them to additional regions and platforms, including WhatsApp, in the future.
• Users will maintain control over how they engage with the AI, and private conversation options through incognito chats will still be available.
• In a blog post, Meta described the development as a milestone, writing: “This is our next step toward personal superintelligence: an AI that knows your context, is there for you whenever you need it.”
• In a separate announcement on Friday, Meta introduced a new app called “Seller,” designed to give merchants who use Facebook Marketplace a dedicated set of tools for their sales activity.
• Meta is set to release its second-quarter financial results after the market closes on July 29.
