MIAMI (AP) — Brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate, well-known social media personalities, were scheduled to stand before a federal magistrate in Miami on Monday following their arrest on rape and sex trafficking charges brought by the United Kingdom.
The two men were taken into custody on Saturday and remain in federal detention. In the weeks ahead, a U.S. district judge will determine whether the legal requirements for extradition to the UK have been satisfied.
Attorney Joseph McBride, who represents the brothers, sharply condemned the newest charges, calling them “filth and slander.” Speaking on Sunday, McBride expressed confidence that the extradition request would ultimately be turned down.
British prosecutors announced that the latest charges involve four additional alleged victims. The evidence behind those charges was provided by Bedfordshire Police in southeastern England. The allegations cover incidents said to have taken place between 2010 and 2017 and include rape, assault, trafficking, and offenses connected to “indecent images of a child and extreme pornography.”
These new charges come on top of existing allegations the brothers already face in the UK — including rape, bodily harm, human trafficking, and controlling prostitution for gain — stemming from incidents involving three other alleged victims between 2012 and 2015.
The Tate brothers hold dual U.S. and British citizenship and relocated to Romania in 2016. They were arrested there in 2022, accused of involvement in schemes to lure women for sexual exploitation. They denied those claims, and the Romanian case has stalled due to legal and procedural complications. Last year, they were permitted to leave Romania and traveled to Florida.
The brothers have consistently denied any wrongdoing throughout the years-long legal saga that has stretched across the United States, the United Kingdom, and Romania. Their online brand, built around themes of wealth, male dominance, and misogyny, has made them among the most controversial figures on the internet.
