WASHINGTON — The United States’ military campaign in Iran has now cost $37.5 billion, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced Tuesday — a jump of nearly $8 billion compared to the most recent public estimate.
Hegseth told members of Congress that the total also accounts for costs expected through September 30 of this year.
Tuesday marked the first time Hegseth has faced public questioning from lawmakers since U.S. military operations against Iran resumed earlier this month. He appeared before the Senate Appropriations Committee alongside Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine.
