The Carolina Panthers announced Tuesday that starting right tackle Taylor Moton has been diagnosed with a blood clot in his lung, forcing him to miss the opening stretch of the 2026 season.
Moton received the diagnosis in June and has since been put on blood thinners. According to the team, he is responding well to treatment and is being monitored every day by the team’s medical staff.
When veteran players officially report to training camp, Carolina will place Moton on the reserve/non-football injury list.
The offensive lineman, who turns 32 next month, started 15 of the 16 games he appeared in last season. He was kept off the offensive line due to a knee injury during a Week 9 matchup against the Green Bay Packers, though he did see the field for three special teams snaps in that contest.
Since being selected by Carolina in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft, Moton has started 128 of 145 career games with the Panthers.
Also heading to the NFI list is two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaycee Horn, who suffered a foot injury that needed stitches after he was hurt while running. The team expects him to return early in training camp.
Horn, 26, put together his best professional season last year, recording a career-high five interceptions along with 37 tackles across 16 games. Over five NFL seasons and 53 games — all starts — he has accumulated 10 interceptions and 190 tackles.
In addition, undrafted free agent cornerback Jaylon Guilbeau, who played college football at Texas, was placed on the NFI list on Tuesday, the date rookies were scheduled to report.
