Delaware State Police are investigating a deadly crash involving a pedestrian that took place Monday afternoon in New Castle.
At around 2:50 p.m. on July 20, 2026, a Nissan Titan was heading westbound on Christiana Road as it neared the intersection with Pleasant Place. At that same moment, a pedestrian in a wheelchair was crossing Christiana Road through the marked crosswalk, moving from Pleasant Place toward Scottie Lane. According to the preliminary investigation, the Nissan had a green traffic signal when the pedestrian entered the vehicle’s path and was hit.
The pedestrian was identified as William Collins, 63, of New Castle, Delaware. He was rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. On July 21, 2026, Collins passed away from the injuries he suffered in the crash.
The driver of the Nissan, a 39-year-old man from Newark, Delaware, was not hurt in the collision.
The road was shut down for roughly four hours while investigators processed and cleared the scene.
