Arizona Cardinals offensive lineman Isaiah Adams was recently taken into custody in Canada, facing four weapons-related charges, according to officials.
The Durham Regional Police Service in Ontario released information stating that Adams, 25, faces charges including possession of a firearm obtained through criminal means, possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm, having no license while in possession of a loaded firearm, and possessing a prohibited device.
Adams was among four individuals arrested in connection with the investigation.
His attorney, Adam Weisberg, came to his client’s defense in a prepared statement. “Isaiah is completely innocent in this matter,” Weisberg said. “He had no knowledge of any firearm, and he will be fully exonerated.”
According to the police report, officers on Friday wrapped up an investigation into a male suspected of carrying a firearm and involvement in drug trafficking. Two of the other people taken into custody were charged with possession of fentanyl with the intent to distribute.
The Cardinals are set to open training camp with their first practice on Thursday. A source with knowledge of the matter told the Associated Press that Adams was expected to report to camp that day. The source requested anonymity because the organization has declined to discuss the specifics of Adams’ situation.
The team released a brief statement acknowledging the matter: “We are aware of the situation involving Isaiah Adams. Out of respect for the process, we will refrain from commenting further at this time.”
Adams, who was born in Ajax, Ontario, is entering his third year with the Cardinals and was competing for a starting position on the offensive line. He was selected by Arizona in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft out of the University of Illinois.
