Indian activist Sonam Wangchuk announced Friday that he has concluded a hunger strike that lasted 26 days.
In a post on X, Wangchuk stated he chose to end his fast following “a long negotiation on various conditions and in view of possible violence in the country.”
The 59-year-old had gone without food since June 28, standing in solidarity with a youth-driven movement in India known as the “cockroach movement.” That movement has been pushing for Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to step down amid controversy over leaked exam papers for medical college entrance tests.
