Heat Advisory in Effect: Feels-Like Temperatures Could Hit 107° Across Delmarva

A Heat Advisory is in effect until 8:00 this evening for much of the Delmarva Peninsula and surrounding areas, as dangerously high heat index values of up to 107 degrees are expected across the region. The National Weather Service out of Mount Holly has issued the advisory for Kent, Delaware Beaches, and Inland Sussex Counties in Delaware, as well as Caroline County on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Portions of southern New Jersey — including Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland, and Salem Counties — are also covered under the alert. Health officials warn that the combination of hot temperatures and high humidity can quickly lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Residents are urged to drink plenty of fluids, stay indoors in air-conditioned spaces, and avoid direct sun exposure. If you must be outside, wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and try to limit strenuous activities to the early morning or evening hours. Please check on elderly relatives, neighbors, and those without access to air conditioning. For outdoor workers, OSHA recommends frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas. Remember — heat stroke is a medical emergency. If someone shows symptoms, move them to a cool location immediately and call 9-1-1. The advisory expires at 8:00 PM tonight.
