A newly released federal report on catfish production reveals a modest but notable dip in the industry’s output across the country.
According to the report, the total water surface acreage dedicated to raising catfish has fallen by three percent compared to previous figures. At the same time, the inventory of food-size catfish — those raised and ready for the consumer market — has also edged slightly downward.
The data was compiled and released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service as part of its ongoing tracking of American aquaculture production.
