
Dr. Erica Schwartz, the president’s nominee to lead the Centers for Disease Control, told lawmakers during confirmation hearings this month that gathering complete and accurate data on abortion is a key priority for the agency.
When Missouri Republican Senator Josh Hawley raised concerns about shortcomings in CDC abortion data, Dr. Schwartz offered a direct pledge: “Senator, you have my commitment. Abortion surveillance is an absolutely critical component of what the agency is currently doing.”
