BERLIN, JULY 2026 — CHRISTOPHER STREET DAY
One person was killed and 17 others injured — several of them in critical condition — when a vehicle drove into a crowd near Berlin’s Pride celebrations on a Saturday evening. Authorities were still searching for whoever was responsible, and both the circumstances and any possible motive remained unknown at the time of reporting.
LEIPZIG, MAY 2026 — CENTRAL PEDESTRIAN ZONE
A car drove into a central pedestrian zone in Leipzig, killing two people and seriously injuring three others. A 33-year-old German man was taken into custody. The premier of Saxony indicated the suspect may have been dealing with mental health issues.
MANNHEIM, MARCH 2025 — CITY CENTRE CROWD
Two people lost their lives and 11 others were hurt when a 40-year-old man deliberately drove into a group of pedestrians in Mannheim. MUNICH, FEBRUARY 2025 — LABOUR UNION DEMONSTRATION
A 24-year-old Afghan national allegedly drove a car into a labour union demonstration in Munich, killing a woman and her 2-year-old daughter and injuring dozens more. German federal prosecutors charged him with two counts of murder and multiple counts of attempted murder, stating the attack was driven by Islamist extremism. His trial is currently underway.
MAGDEBURG, DECEMBER 2024 — CHRISTMAS MARKET
Six people were killed and more than 200 were injured when a car plowed into a Christmas market in Magdeburg. A Saudi national was sentenced to life in prison in June 2026. Anis Amri, a failed Tunisian asylum seeker with ties to Islamist extremism, hijacked a truck, killed its driver, and then drove it into a packed Christmas market in Berlin, killing 11 additional people and injuring dozens more. He was shot and killed by police in Italy four days after the attack.
