Delaware State Police are investigating a deadly motorcycle crash that took place late Sunday night in Wilmington.
The incident happened around 11:00 p.m. on July 12, 2026, near the intersection of eastbound Main Street and northbound Limestone Road. At the time, a Honda Passport was stopped at a red light in the outside turn lane on eastbound Main Street, waiting to turn left onto northbound Limestone Road. A Mazda CX-5 was stopped directly behind the Honda.
Meanwhile, a Kawasaki Ninja was heading southbound on Limestone Road toward the right turn lanes connecting to westbound Main Street. For reasons that investigators have not yet determined, the Kawasaki failed to complete the turn and went straight instead, hitting the curb of a traffic island. The rider was thrown from the motorcycle and slid underneath the stopped Honda. His helmet was found on the hood of the Mazda behind it.
The motorcyclist, a 25-year-old man from Newark, Delaware, was rushed to a nearby hospital with injuries described as life-threatening. He passed away the following day, July 13, 2026. His identity is being withheld while authorities notify his next of kin.
The two other drivers involved — a 38-year-old woman from Wilmington behind the wheel of the Honda, and a 29-year-old man from Hummelstown, Pennsylvania driving the Mazda — were uninjured.
The road was shut down for roughly three and a half hours as investigators processed and cleared the crash scene.
