Czech tennis player Karolina Muchova revealed Saturday that a recent minor surgical procedure will force her to withdraw from next month’s Canadian Open in Toronto.
The 29-year-old had a strong showing at Wimbledon earlier this month, reaching the final before dropping a 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 decision to her compatriot Linda Noskova.
The defeat marked the second Grand Slam final loss of Muchova’s career. Her first came at the 2023 French Open, where she fell to Poland’s Iga Swiatek.
Taking to social media to address her situation, Muchova said, “I had to undergo a small surgery that will keep me off the court for a few weeks. Everything went well, and I’m already working on my recovery.”
She added, “Sad to be missing Toronto this year. I was really looking forward to making my debut there, but recovery comes first.”
The world number six has faced a difficult road with injuries throughout her career, including ongoing wrist trouble that has sidelined her at various points.
Muchova did not specify what the surgery involved or give a timeline for her comeback. However, she is anticipated to be ready to compete at the U.S. Open, which gets underway next month.
