LONDON — Social media influencer brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate were taken into custody in Miami on Saturday after prosecutors in the United Kingdom announced a new wave of rape and sex trafficking charges against them.
Britain’s Crown Prosecution Service announced the new charges stem from evidence provided by Bedfordshire Police in southeastern England and involve four additional alleged victims. The charges cover rape, assault, trafficking, and offenses connected to indecent images of a child and extreme pornography.
With the latest charges, the total number of alleged victims in the UK has risen to seven. The brothers have denied any wrongdoing. Their legal troubles now span three countries — the United States, the United Kingdom, and Romania — in what has become a lengthy international legal saga.
Andrew Tate, 39, and Tristan Tate, 38, hold dual U.S.-British citizenship and have built a social media empire centered around themes of wealth, male dominance, and misogyny. Andrew, a former professional kickboxer who describes himself as a misogynist, has accumulated more than 10 million followers on X, the majority of whom are boys and young men. He has been removed from platforms including YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram for violating their hate speech policies. He also operates an online program where he claims to teach young men how to build wealth and attract women. Tristan Tate is also a former kickboxer.
Both brothers are vocal supporters of U.S. President Donald Trump.
British prosecutors said the newly announced charges relate to alleged offenses that occurred between 2010 and 2017. Andrew Tate faces seven additional counts of rape, three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation, three counts of assault, and 19 charges tied to indecent images of a child and extreme pornography. Tristan Tate faces one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape, and three counts of arranging or facilitating sex trafficking.
The Crown Prosecution Service stated that it “has requested the extradition of the Tates from the U.S. They have been arrested and await extradition proceedings to the U.K.”
These are in addition to charges the brothers already face in the UK involving three other alleged victims — including rape, bodily harm, human trafficking, and controlling prostitution for gain — covering the period between 2012 and 2015. In June, a UK High Court judge rejected a legal attempt by the Tates to obtain the names of their accusers.
In Romania, the brothers were arrested in late 2022 alongside two Romanian women. All four were accused of participating in criminal schemes to lure women for sexual exploitation. They denied those allegations, and the Romanian case has stalled due to legal and procedural complications, though it has not been closed. A separate legal case against the brothers also exists in Romania.
Andrew Tate has repeatedly insisted that Romanian prosecutors have no evidence against him and has claimed there is a political conspiracy aimed at silencing him.
UK authorities had previously sought the brothers’ extradition once their Romanian legal proceedings wrapped up. However, in February 2025, Romanian authorities lifted travel restrictions on the brothers, allowing them to depart the country. They flew to Florida aboard a private jet.
Romania’s foreign minister stated at the time that a U.S. official within the Trump administration had expressed interest in the brothers’ legal situation in Romania. When asked whether his administration had pressured Romania to release the Tates, President Trump said he knew “nothing about” the case.
