The Utah Talons are back-to-back Athletes Unlimited Softball League champions after defeating the Chicago Bandits 6-1 on Sunday in College Station, Texas, clinching the best-of-three championship series in Game 2.
Jadelyn Allchin, named the Championship Series Most Valuable Player, was the offensive engine for Utah. She launched a two-run home run in the first inning and followed it up with an RBI double in the fourth inning, finishing the game with three runs batted in.
Bri Ellis and Sahvanna Jaquish also contributed home runs for the Talons. On the mound, right-hander Montana Fouts delivered a complete game performance, allowing eight hits while striking out four and walking just one batter.
Chicago’s only run came in the seventh inning when Skylar Wallace singled to drive in a run. It was her second hit of the afternoon.
Bandits starter Kat Sandercock struggled on the mound, surrendering four runs — two of them earned — along with seven hits before being pulled after 3 2/3 innings. Allchin’s fourth-inning double proved to be the hit that ended her outing.
Utah also defeated Chicago in last year’s championship series, which marked the inaugural season of the AUSL. The Talons have now won the league title in each of the league’s two seasons of play.
The Talons had also taken Game 1 of this series on Saturday, winning 2-1 over the Bandits.
