Ukraine Requests $7.5 Billion in EU Military Aid Amid Battlefield Opportunity

Ukraine is calling on its European Union partners to redirect €6.6 billion — roughly $7.5 billion — from a bloc fund known as the European Peace Facility toward military support for the country.

Ukrainian officials say the timing is critical, describing the current moment as a six-to-nine month “window of opportunity” on the battlefield that they hope to take full advantage of with increased allied backing.

In a letter reviewed by Reuters, Ukraine’s Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov outlined the scope of the country’s military funding needs. He noted that Ukraine’s total defense requirements for the current year are estimated at approximately €136 billion, with Ukraine’s own national budget expected to contribute around €53 billion of that total.
