WASHINGTON — The United States military announced late Monday that it had completed another wave of strikes against Iran, hitting military command centers, missile and drone launch facilities, maritime assets, and air defense systems.
The announcement came through a post on social media platform X by U.S. Central Command, confirming the strikes lasted approximately five hours and represented the tenth straight night of American military action against Iran.
Washington stated its goal is to “degrade Iran’s ability to continue attacking commercial vessels flowing through the Strait of Hormuz.”
The conflict began on February 28, when the U.S. and Israel launched initial strikes against Iran. Iran responded with attacks on Israel and Gulf states that host American military bases.
The war has taken a significant human toll. Combined U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran, along with Israeli attacks on Lebanon, have killed thousands of people and forced millions from their homes.
The number of American troops killed in the conflict climbed to 17 over the weekend. Following those losses, Trump vowed revenge against Iran on Monday.
Over the past week, Trump also threatened to broaden the range of targets being struck inside Iran to include energy plants and bridges. International law experts in the U.S. warned earlier this year that striking such targets could constitute war crimes under the 1949 Geneva Conventions, which prohibit attacks on sites considered essential to civilian populations.
The ongoing conflict has driven oil prices higher and sent shockwaves through global financial markets.
