A tropical depression churning in the Gulf of Mexico is gradually making its way toward the Florida Panhandle, and forecasters say tropical storm conditions could arrive in that region by late Monday.
According to the National Hurricane Center, as of 10:00 PM CDT on Sunday, July 19, the center of Tropical Depression Two was positioned near latitude 28.0 North, longitude 85.1 West. The storm was moving north-northwestward at just 3 miles per hour — a very slow pace.
The system’s minimum central pressure was recorded at 1008 millibars, with maximum sustained winds of approximately 30 miles per hour. While not yet a tropical storm, forecasters are watching the system closely as it edges toward the Gulf Coast.
Residents in the Florida Panhandle area are advised to keep a close eye on updates from the National Hurricane Center as the storm continues its slow northward crawl.
