Toronto FC is putting the finishing touches on an agreement to bring midfielder Nelson Palacio over from Real Salt Lake, according to reports from several outlets published Tuesday.
The 25-year-old Colombian player will head to Toronto in exchange for $1.2 million in cash, and he will take up a U22 initiative slot on the team’s roster, according to The Athletic.
Palacio has spent the current season on loan with Zurich in Switzerland’s top professional league, the Swiss Super League, where he recorded one assist across 32 appearances. Prior to that loan, he appeared in 44 MLS matches for Real Salt Lake between 2023 and 2025, contributing one goal and one assist.
Toronto FC headed into the FIFA World Cup break sitting in 13th place in the Eastern Conference, leaving the club four points shy of a playoff position. The team is scheduled to resume play on July 16 when they travel to face CF Montreal.
