Sussex County Road Closure: Stiener Road Shut Down at Railroad Crossing July 31

GEORGETOWN, Del. — Motorists traveling through Sussex County will need to find alternate routes starting the morning of Friday, July 31, 2026, as a section of Stiener Road will be completely shut down.

The Delaware Department of Transportation has announced that Delmarva Central Railroad crews will be resurfacing and performing routine maintenance work at the railroad crossing on Stiener Road, located between Lewes Georgetown Highway/SR 9 and Hollis Road.

The work is scheduled to begin at 7:00 a.m. and will require a full closure of Stiener Road at that location. DelDOT says message signs will be posted in the area ahead of time to alert drivers of the upcoming closure.

Motorists are encouraged to plan their travel accordingly and allow extra time to reach their destinations using alternate roads.
