More than 4 million Americans have lost access to food stamp benefits over the past year, as participation in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program — commonly known as SNAP — has fallen sharply and steadily.
The drop in enrollment began in July of last year, when President Trump signed the One Big Beautiful Bill into law. Since that signing, SNAP participation numbers have declined consistently, marking one of the more significant shifts in the federal food assistance program in recent memory.
