SALISBURY, Md. — Downtown Salisbury is getting ready for a big night of live music as the city prepares to host Turn Up the Volume, a special expanded edition of its monthly Third Friday event, on Friday, September 18, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The event comes as the City of Salisbury works through plans for the future of its signature downtown festival. The Maryland Folk Festival, which had been set for September, is currently on hold while city officials evaluate options and chart a course for what will become their next major downtown event. In the meantime, Turn Up the Volume is being introduced as a music-focused celebration that highlights Salisbury’s local music and arts community — and offers a taste of what future music-centered events could look like.
For one evening, the downtown district will come alive with two stages of back-to-back performances, featuring local and regional musicians. The city is also encouraging street performers to take part through the Salisbury Street Performers initiative. Attendees can expect artists, vendors, food trucks, family-friendly activities, and interactive music experiences spread throughout the area.
City officials say the event is designed not only to showcase local talent but also to bring people downtown and support area businesses, all while spotlighting Salisbury as a vibrant Arts and Entertainment District.
Scott Roberts, Director of the Arts, Business, and Culture Department, spoke to the spirit behind the event. “While we continue planning for the future of a premier downtown festival, Turn Up the Volume gives us the opportunity to celebrate the incredible musicians, performers, and artists who make our community so vibrant,” he said.
