Church organizations in Cuba have started handing out hundreds of boxes of humanitarian aid from the United States in two towns near the country’s capital. The Trump administration chose to route the assistance through churches rather than the Communist government, citing a lack of trust in the government’s ability to handle the distribution. Church officials say the food and hygiene packages will go first to the most vulnerable Cuban families. Each box contains enough food to sustain a family for ten days, including rice, beans, spaghetti, salt, brown sugar, canned sardines, tuna, and cooking oil. The hygiene kits include a solar lamp, water purification tablets, soap, and toothbrushes.
Pastor Ezra Jin has pledged to work toward securing the release of eight Zion Church members and other Christians who remain imprisoned in China. The Communist government released Jin this month, sending him to the United States following a request from President Trump. He had been held in detention for running a private church. Jin founded Zion Church in 2007, and it grew to become one of the most prominent independent congregations in the country. In 2018, Beijing authorities shut down the church’s physical location after the congregation declined to install government surveillance cameras. Jin and other church leaders were taken into custody again in October 2025 during another government crackdown.

Researchers at Hartwick College found that one of the most dramatic changes involves which Americans consider abortion a top-tier issue. For many years, the topic ranked higher in importance among Republicans and those who identified as pro-life. That has now reversed — Democrats and Americans who support abortion access are now more likely than Republicans to describe the issue as a major factor driving their vote. In both the 2022 and 2024 elections, abortion-supporting Democrats showed particularly strong motivation to vote and demonstrated high loyalty to Democratic candidates.
