A new study from Pew Research has found a notable connection between political engagement and religious involvement among Americans.
According to the findings, the most politically active segment of the population is also the most religiously active. This group represents just 9% of all Americans, yet they stand out across multiple measures of civic and community participation — including volunteering, attending local government meetings, donating to political causes, and closely following the news. They are also more likely than any other group to regularly attend religious services.
The study also identified a second distinct group, representing 28% of the U.S. population, that is highly active in religious life but does not share the same level of political involvement.
