Man Arrested After Knife Attack on Three Women Near Paris Metro Station

PARIS — A man was arrested Monday following a knife attack on three women near Porte de Clichy in Paris, according to French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez, who spoke with reporters about the incident.

Nunez said the attacker used two kitchen knives to assault the women, who were 19, 24, and 36 years old. Two of the three victims suffered severe wounds in the attack.

Authorities say an off-duty police officer stepped in to subdue and detain the suspect. The interior minister praised that officer’s actions, stating, “I pay tribute to him, it was a courageous act.”

As of Monday, investigators had not determined a motive for the attack. Nunez also noted that police were unable to confirm the attacker’s identity, saying the man’s statements during his arrest were “incoherent.”
