A Heat Advisory is in effect through 8 o’clock tonight for parts of our region, as dangerously hot and humid conditions are expected to make it feel like 100 degrees outside.
The National Weather Service out of Mount Holly has issued the advisory covering New Castle County here in Delaware, along with several counties in southeastern Pennsylvania — including Philadelphia, Delaware, Eastern Chester, Eastern Montgomery, and Lower Bucks — as well as Mercer, Camden, Gloucester, and Northwestern Burlington Counties in New Jersey.
Meteorologists warn that the combination of high temperatures and oppressive humidity could lead to serious heat-related illnesses, including heat exhaustion and heat stroke. The advisory runs from noon through 8 PM this evening.
Health officials urge residents to take the heat seriously. Drink plenty of water and fluids throughout the day, stay indoors in an air-conditioned space as much as possible, and avoid direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours. Neighbors and family members are also encouraged to check in on elderly relatives and those who may not have access to air conditioning.
If you or someone you know shows signs of heat stroke — including confusion, hot dry skin, or loss of consciousness — call 9-1-1 immediately. Stay cool and stay safe out there today.
