Delaware Governor Matt Meyer put his signature on Senate Bill 9 on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, making history by establishing the state’s very first comprehensive program aimed at protecting freshwater wetlands.
The legislation, which received support from both sides of the aisle, sets up a formal state-level framework to safeguard freshwater wetlands going forward. At the same time, the new law is designed to bring greater clarity and predictability to the permitting process for landowners, farmers, and others who may be affected.
The signing took place in Dover.
