DELMARVA — An electrical failure sparked a fire at a commercial chicken house on Saint Luke’s Road in Wicomico County Friday afternoon. Emergency crews from the Fruitland Volunteer Fire Company arrived and had the blaze under control in approximately 5 minutes. The structure, a large house measuring roughly 500 feet by 43 feet, was unoccupied at the time. No birds were lost and no injuries were reported. Structural damage is estimated at around $1,000. The Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal is continuing its investigation.
Livestock
Mineral supplementation consistency remains a challenge for cattle producers heading into peak production periods. According to Ag Proud, most producers have solid mineral programs in place, but the primary difficulty lies in ensuring animals reliably take in their supplements.

At Laurel Grain Company in Laurel, Delaware, corn for September delivery is at $4.93/bu. December corn is at $4.86/bu. November soybeans are at $11.62/bu.

Delmarva can expect sunny skies Monday with highs near 85°F and light east winds at 5-10 mph. Clouds will build overnight with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Tuesday brings showers and storms with highs near 88°F and south winds at 10-20 mph. Producers are advised to plan field work for Monday morning.
