BEIJING — China and Thailand have announced plans to strengthen their partnership in technology and innovation, according to a joint statement released late Monday following a five-day trip to China by Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.
The statement outlined cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including health, geospatial information, agricultural technology, advanced materials, artificial intelligence, advanced electronic devices, automobiles, aerospace, and clean energy.
“Technological progress and digital transformation create tremendous new opportunities for both countries,” the joint statement read.
The two governments also agreed to boost collaboration between industry and academic researchers, with a focus on strengthening and securing their respective supply chains.
Among the goals tied to what the statement described as a “shared prosperity” vision was advancing construction of a high-speed railway connecting the two countries. Thailand indicated it is aiming to finish a 250-kilometer, or roughly 155-mile, section of the line by 2030.
The nations, which have maintained frequent high-level contact since last year, further agreed to improve coordination on foreign affairs and defense matters.
