CLEVELAND — In a stunning offensive outburst, the Cleveland Guardians launched seven home runs against the Minnesota Twins on Monday evening, falling just one short of the franchise record while tying the all-time mark for a home game.
The power display was particularly surprising given that Cleveland entered the contest tied with Tampa Bay for third-fewest home runs in the majors, with just 94 on the season. Petey Halpin and Rhys Hoskins each went deep twice to lead the charge.
Monday’s performance marked the sixth time across the franchise’s 125-year history that Cleveland has hit at least seven home runs in a single game. The franchise record of eight was set twice — at Milwaukee on April 25, 1997, and at Seattle on July 16, 2004. The Guardians had also matched seven homers in a home game on April 30, 2013, against the Philadelphia Phillies.
This is the fourth time this season that any team has reached the seven-homer mark in one game. The Chicago Cubs set the high-water mark with eight home runs in a 23-3 victory over the San Diego Padres on July 1.
Patrick Bailey delivered the seventh homer of the night for Cleveland — a solo shot to center field off Woo-Suk Go leading off the seventh inning.
Brayan Rocchio and Travis Bazzana also went deep, as the Guardians collectively hit six home runs within the first four innings against Twins All-Star starter Joe Ryan. According to Sportradar, that marks the first time since at least 1974 that Cleveland had six home runs through the first four innings of a game. The closest previous instances were five homers in the first four innings on July 22, 1994, against the Chicago White Sox, and on August 15, 2019, at the New York Yankees.
It was the 24th time that feat has occurred in the majors since 1974. The most recent prior instance was by the New York Yankees on August 27, 2025, against the Washington Nationals.
Both Halpin and Hoskins came into Monday’s game batting under .200. Halpin, hitting just .194, launched the first two home runs of his major league career — both drives to right-center — in the second and fourth innings. Hoskins, whose average had slipped to .177 after going 1-for-6 in a weekend series against Pittsburgh, added solo shots to left field in the first and third innings.
It marked the first time two Cleveland players had each homered at least twice in the same game since José Ramírez and Carlos Santana accomplished the feat in 2019 against the Yankees.
For Twins starter Joe Ryan, the night was historically bad. The six home runs he surrendered set a franchise record, surpassing even records dating back to the team’s days as the Washington Senators. The right-hander’s previous career high was five home runs allowed in a game, most recently at Atlanta in 2023. Ryan also gave up a career-high 10 hits while working four innings, surrendering eight runs — the second-most he has ever allowed in a single start across his six-year career.
Rocchio got the home run parade started with a two-run blast to left in the first inning, while Bazzana went deep for the second time in three games with a drive to right-center in the second.
