Grammy-winning singer Chris Brown appeared in court Friday and pleaded guilty to affray in connection with a brawl at a London nightclub that left a music producer injured.
The 37-year-old made the plea change during a hearing at Southwark Crown Court in London. He had previously denied more serious charges related to the February 2023 incident.
As part of the deal, prosecutors agreed to drop charges of assault, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, and possession of an offensive weapon.
Brown had denied allegations that he attacked Abraham Diaw with a bottle at the Tape nightclub, located in London’s upscale Mayfair neighborhood. Prosecutors noted the fight was recorded by surveillance cameras in front of a crowd of club patrons.
Prior to Friday’s hearing, Brown had been out on bail set at 5 million pounds — roughly $6.75 million — a condition that allowed him to tour across Europe and North America last summer.
He was released on bail again following Friday’s court appearance and is scheduled to be sentenced on October 26 for the affray charge.
Brown first rose to fame as a teenager in 2005. He took home his first Grammy Award for best R&B album in 2011 for “F.A.M.E.” and earned his second Grammy in the same category earlier this year for “11:11 (Deluxe).”
