AGTech Holdings, a Hong Kong-listed financial technology company backed by Chinese tech giant Alibaba, announced Thursday that one of its subsidiaries has signed a technical service agreement with the Hong Kong Gold Exchange to build a new electronic trading, clearing, and settlement platform.
The subsidiary responsible for the project, TGX Technology, will handle the design, development, and ongoing maintenance of the platform. Once the work is complete, TGX and the Hong Kong Gold Exchange will share co-ownership of the system.
According to AGTech, all of the gold exchange’s current bullion trading, clearing, settlement, and related electronic operations are expected to be moved over to the new platform after it is finished.
In addition to this project, AGTech provides digital payment and banking services and counts Alibaba among its major backers.
The Hong Kong Gold Exchange, which officially launched in 2025, serves as the city’s only spot gold and silver exchange.
