Russian officials announced Monday that Ukraine struck Moscow and the surrounding region with a wave of more than 400 drones overnight, leaving two people injured and igniting fires at several civilian sites.
Andrei Vorobyov, the governor of the Moscow region, posted on the Telegram messaging app that air defense forces and electronic warfare systems successfully pushed back the drone assault. He noted the most significant damage occurred in Podolsk, Domodedovo, and the Odintsovo district, where two people were hurt and multiple civilian infrastructure sites were set on fire or damaged.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that more than 400 “enemy drones” were launched toward the Moscow region during a window stretching from 8:30 p.m. (1730 GMT) to 5:00 a.m. (0200 GMT). The vast majority were intercepted by air defense systems at long range, with 85 drones shot down as they approached the Russian capital.
Wildberries, identified as Russia’s largest online retailer, announced Monday that its logistics center in the Podolsk district had been evacuated out of caution, though it later returned to normal operations.
The attack came just days after a series of Ukrainian drone strikes on Saturday killed seven warehouse employees at a Wildberries facility and injured dozens of others. A separate strike that same day triggered a fire at an oil depot located in the broader Moscow region.
Russia’s Defense Ministry stated that air defense systems destroyed 381 Ukrainian drones overnight across various Russian regions as well as over the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.
