Federal weather officials confirmed Monday evening that a tropical depression in the Gulf of Mexico has organized and strengthened into Tropical Storm Bertha.
NOAA Hurricane Hunters made the determination after flying into the system and gathering data. As of 7:00 PM CDT on Monday, July 20, the center of Bertha was located near coordinates 28.6 degrees north, 86.0 degrees west.
The storm was moving in a west-northwest direction at a slow pace of just 3 miles per hour. Bertha had a minimum central pressure of 1,004 millibars and maximum sustained winds of approximately 40 miles per hour.
The National Hurricane Center will continue to issue updates as Bertha progresses through the Gulf of Mexico.
