Two firefighters were killed Tuesday while battling a building fire in southwest France, according to the country’s Interior Minister.
Interior Minister Laurent Nunez made the announcement directly to members of the National Assembly, telling lawmakers that the firefighters had died while fighting a blaze in Mérignac — a suburb of Bordeaux where the city’s airport is located.
Nunez told legislators he was still waiting for additional details about the incident.
The Bordeaux airport issued a statement on its website confirming that the nearby fire was causing delays for some flights.
