WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump on Monday pushed for the Federal Reserve to bring down interest rates, making the case that the United States should have lower borrowing costs than any other country in the world.
Speaking to reporters while flying aboard Air Force One, Trump pointed to other nations as justification for his position. “Rates should be lowered… We have other countries that are paying less interest rates,” he said.
Trump went further, stating plainly, “We should have the lowest interest rate in the world.”
The president also weighed in on Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh, offering a mixed assessment. “Kevin is fantastic, but he’s got a board, and the board members are very political,” Trump said. He added that he was aware of what Warsh wanted to do on the matter.
