Trump Admin Freezes Over $1 Billion in Medicaid Funds to California and Minnesota

The Trump administration announced Tuesday that it is halting more than $1 billion in Medicaid funding owed to California and Minnesota, pointing to concerns about potential fraud and failure to follow program requirements.

U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. made the announcement at a news conference, saying the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is pausing the payments “because of suspected fraud and noncompliance.”

Kennedy made clear that the two states will have to prove the money was being used appropriately before they see any of it. “If those states want that money they need to provide documentations that these payments are legitimate,” he said.
