
The National Hurricane Center in Miami issued its fourteenth wind speed probability update for Tropical Storm Bertha at 9:00 p.m. UTC on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.
At the time of the report, Bertha’s center was located near latitude 29.8 North, longitude 89.8 West — placing the storm near the Louisiana and Mississippi Gulf Coast. Maximum sustained winds were measured at approximately 40 knots, or 45 miles per hour (75 km/h).
The probability data covers a five-day outlook and shows the likelihood of locations experiencing sustained wind speeds of at least 34 knots (39 mph), 50 knots (58 mph), and 64 knots (74 mph).
Among the hardest-hit areas in terms of wind probability, Buras, Louisiana and Houma, Louisiana both showed a 99 percent cumulative chance of experiencing tropical-storm-force winds of at least 34 knots. New Orleans, Louisiana came in at 95 percent, while Gulfport, Mississippi showed an 81 percent probability.
Houma and Cameron, Louisiana also carried a 3 percent cumulative probability of reaching 50-knot (58 mph) winds — a threshold that would indicate stronger tropical storm conditions.
Further west along the Texas coast, Galveston showed a 33 percent cumulative probability of tropical-storm-force winds, while Houston reached 10 percent. Freeport, Texas came in at 23 percent, and High Island, Texas at 23 percent as well.
More distant Texas communities such as Matagorda, Port O’Connor, and Rockport showed lower but still notable probabilities ranging from 3 to 18 percent.
