Giants WR Malik Nabers Skips PUP List, Boosting Recovery Hopes

There is encouraging news surrounding New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers and his recovery from a serious knee injury — the young star was not included when the team announced its physically unable to perform list ahead of training camp.

The Giants placed tight end Thomas Fidone II, who is dealing with a foot injury, along with defensive linemen Roy Robertson-Harris and Sam Roberts on the PUP list before camp opens next week in West Virginia. Robertson-Harris suffered a torn Achilles tendon earlier this spring.

Nabers, who earned Pro Bowl honors during his impressive 2024 rookie season, saw his sophomore campaign cut short when he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during Week 4 last fall. He finished that season with just 18 catches for 271 yards and two touchdowns, a stark contrast to his debut year when he hauled in 109 receptions for 1,204 yards and seven scores.

New York’s new head coach John Harbaugh has expressed confidence in recent weeks that the team expects Nabers to make a full recovery. The receiver, who will celebrate his 23rd birthday on July 28, was selected by the Giants with the sixth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft out of LSU.

The team’s rookies and quarterbacks reported Thursday, with veterans set to join the group on Tuesday when the franchise travels to West Virginia for camp.

Under NFL rules, players can only be placed on the active/PUP list prior to the start of training camp. Those on the list count toward the team’s 90-man roster, may attend meetings and use team facilities during the preseason, and can be activated at any point during camp to practice immediately. However, while on the list, they are barred from taking part in any practice activities.

The reserve/PUP designation works differently — players on that list do not count against the active roster but are required to miss at least the first four games of the regular season.
