A tropical depression is on the move in the Atlantic, and forecasters say it could reach tropical storm strength before the day is done.
As of 1:00 PM CDT on Monday, July 20, the center of Tropical Depression Two was positioned near latitude 28.6 North, longitude 85.6 West. The system was drifting in an erratic northwestward direction at just 3 miles per hour.
The depression had maximum sustained winds of approximately 35 mph and a minimum central pressure of 1005 millibars at the time of the report.
Forecasters are expecting the system to organize further and develop into a tropical storm either this afternoon or tonight. Residents along coastal areas should continue monitoring updates from the National Hurricane Center as the storm’s path and intensity evolve.
