Russian missiles rained down on Kyiv and the surrounding region in the early hours of Sunday, claiming at least one life and leaving nine people injured as fires spread throughout the city, according to officials.
A Reuters journalist on the ground reported hearing a succession of powerful blasts shake the Ukrainian capital, as the country’s air force issued warnings about an incoming ballistic missile threat.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced via the Telegram app that fires had broken out at a dormitory, a residential building, and a supermarket as a result of the strikes.
Klitschko added that the attack also damaged several non-residential buildings and warehouses, while parked vehicles and office buildings in multiple districts were set ablaze.
In the broader Kyiv region, the military administration reported that two additional people were hurt and that warehouses in the area sustained damage as well.
