New York Mets Sign Christopher Morel to Minor League Deal

According to multiple media reports released Tuesday, the New York Mets have agreed to bring on outfielder and third baseman Christopher Morel through a minor league deal.

Morel, 27 years old, was cut by the Miami Marlins this past Friday after struggling to find his footing with the club. He had inked a one-year contract worth $2 million heading into the season, but his performance fell well short of expectations.

In 22 games with Miami, Morel batted just .162 with no home runs and struck out 28 times across 68 at-bats — numbers that ultimately led to his release.

Over the course of his major league career, Morel has appeared in 499 games, posting a .220/.296/.407 slash line with 74 home runs and 211 RBIs. He has previously suited up for the Chicago Cubs from 2022 through 2024, the Tampa Bay Rays spanning 2024 and 2025, and most recently the Marlins in 2026.
