The nation’s egg production saw a notable increase in June, rising 4 percent compared to the same month last year, according to a new report from federal agriculture officials.
At the same time, the data showed mixed results on the chick hatchery front. Broiler-type chicks — the kind raised for meat — were hatched at a rate 2 percent higher than the prior year. However, egg-type chicks, which are raised to become laying hens, saw hatchings fall by 1 percent over the same period.
The figures were released as part of a routine federal agricultural production summary tracking poultry industry trends across the country.
