Inter Miami have added a promising young defender to their roster, announcing Tuesday the loan signing of 18-year-old Ecuadorian Fricio Caicedo from Costa Rica’s FC Moravia FCM.
The loan agreement runs through the 2027 season and includes an option for Inter Miami to purchase the player outright. Caicedo is also eligible to fill a U22 Initiative roster spot with the defending MLS Cup champions.
Inter Miami sporting director Alberto Marrero expressed enthusiasm about the addition. “Fricio is a young player with tremendous potential and a bright future,” Marrero said. “We’re very pleased to welcome him to the project. We believe this is the ideal environment for him to continue developing, grow as a player, and gradually showcase his full potential. He stands out for his physicality, his strength in the air, and his pace when competing for loose balls.”
The 6-foot-4 center-back made no secret of one of his biggest motivations for joining the club. “My goals are to play, earn minutes, become a starter and win many trophies,” Caicedo said. “I came to Miami because my dream was to play alongside (Lionel) Messi, who is without a doubt the best player in the world. I’m here to make history and show what I can do.”
Messi is an eight-time Ballon d’Or winner and one of the most celebrated players in soccer history.
Inter Miami are currently on a FIFA World Cup break and are scheduled to return to action on July 22, when the Chicago Fire come to town.
