Heat Advisory in Effect: ‘Feels Like’ Temps Near 100° Across the Region

A Heat Advisory is in effect today for much of our region, including New Castle County in Delaware, as dangerously high heat index values are expected to reach around 100 degrees. The National Weather Service out of Mount Holly issued the advisory, which runs from noon until 8:00 PM this evening. Beyond Delaware, the advisory covers several counties in neighboring Pennsylvania and New Jersey, including Philadelphia, Delaware, Eastern Chester, Eastern Montgomery, and Lower Bucks Counties in Pennsylvania, and Mercer, Camden, Gloucester, and Northwestern Burlington Counties in New Jersey. Meteorologists warn that the combination of hot temperatures and high humidity could lead to heat-related illnesses, which can become serious — even life-threatening — very quickly. Authorities are urging residents to take the following precautions during the peak afternoon hours: • Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated • Stay indoors in an air-conditioned space when possible • Avoid direct sun exposure • Check on elderly relatives, neighbors, and those without air conditioning The advisory expires at 8:00 PM tonight.
