Heat Advisory in Effect: ‘Feels Like’ Temperatures Could Hit 101°F Across the Region

A Heat Advisory is in effect through 8 o’clock this evening for parts of our region, as dangerously high temperatures and humidity combine to create potentially hazardous conditions. The National Weather Service office in Mount Holly has issued the advisory for New Castle County here in Delaware, along with portions of southeastern Pennsylvania — including Philadelphia, Delaware, Eastern Chester, Eastern Montgomery, and Lower Bucks Counties — and several New Jersey counties, including Mercer, Camden, Gloucester, and Northwestern Burlington. Heat index values — what the temperature actually feels like on your skin — could reach as high as 101 degrees this afternoon. Health officials warn that those levels can quickly lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke, especially for the elderly, young children, and those working or exercising outdoors. To stay safe, health experts urge you to drink plenty of water, stay indoors in air-conditioned spaces, and avoid direct sunlight during the hottest parts of the day. Just as important — check in on neighbors, relatives, and friends who may be vulnerable to the heat. The advisory expires at 8 PM this evening.
