TORONTO — A gunshot rang out near the U.S. consulate in downtown Toronto in the early hours of Monday morning, the second time the building has been targeted this year, according to police.
Officers responding to the sound of gunfire discovered evidence that a weapon had been discharged outside the consulate building, located on University Avenue. No one was hurt in the incident.
Toronto police posted on X that a white sedan was spotted fleeing the scene following the shooting. A reporter on the scene observed officers had cordoned off the immediate surrounding area.
This latest incident comes roughly four months after a similar event on March 10, when multiple shots were fired at the same building. That earlier shooting had followed three separate incidents in which gunshots were directed at synagogues across the Toronto area.
In June, police revealed — though without elaborating — that young people in the Toronto area were allegedly being paid to shoot at a variety of targets. Those targets reportedly included synagogues, Jewish schools, and the U.S. Consulate.
