The Washington Commanders announced Monday that they have parted ways with tight ends coach Ben Steele, cutting ties with him just ahead of the start of training camp.
The organization offered little explanation, releasing only a brief statement: “The team will have no further comment at this time.”
Steele, 48, had joined head coach Dan Quinn’s coaching staff back in March after spending three seasons in the same role with the Arizona Cardinals.
His departure follows an arrest last month on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Steele was taken into custody on June 7 in Virginia and also faces charges for refusing to submit to a blood or breath test, as well as obstructing or resisting an officer without force.
According to a Commanders reporter for The Athletic, who posted the information on X on Monday, Steele was dismissed for violating team policy.
The Athletic also reports that Quinn is expected to announce a replacement for the position on Tuesday.
