Fatal Hit-and-Run Kills Seaford Bicyclist on Woodpecker Road

Delaware State Police are investigating a deadly hit-and-run crash that took place Friday afternoon in Seaford.

At around 2:10 p.m. on July 24, 2026, a bicyclist was making his way eastbound along the southern edge of Woodpecker Road, west of Butler Branch Road. An unidentified vehicle was also heading eastbound on Woodpecker Road at the time. For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle collided with the bicyclist and then left the scene without stopping.

The bicyclist, a 73-year-old man from Seaford, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Woodpecker Road was shut down for roughly four hours while troopers worked the scene and completed their investigation before reopening the roadway.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing to piece together what happened. Investigators believe the vehicle involved may have sustained damage to its passenger side, possibly around the turn signal housing area.
